North Lincolnshire homes to be kept warmer thanks to huge cash grant
More North Lincolnshire residents will be able to enjoy warmer homes thanks to a huge cash grant issued by the government.
North Lincolnshire homes will benefit from the award-winning Green Homes Grant which kept 163 residents warm last winter.
Now, the scheme will roll out its third phase to aid even more North Lincolnshire locals this coming winter.
The £1.6m grant will allow low-income households to save money and keep warm.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, welcomed this further roll-out:
“This is a substantial amount of Government money that will be used to keep people safe, warm and well this winter.
“It is especially welcome at a time when energy prices are rising, and low-income households are especially hard hit. This will have a really positive impact on people’s lives.”
According to the council, the grant, which provided 163 homes with energy, saved a potential £24,000 on energy bills whilst saving 153.5 tonnes of carbon.
The scheme aligns with the council’s Green Future strategy, “which is committed to cutting carbon and building a sustainable North Lincolnshire.”
Following the success of the project last year, the scheme won the National Insulation Project of the Year during the National Energy Efficiency Awards earlier this year.
Park home resident Tony Charles had external wall insulation fitted as part of the scheme.
He said: “It’s improved the look of the house and it’s saved me money every month off my gas bill, when you’re an old age pensioner that matters a lot!”
The council confirmed advisors will travel across Scunthorpe over the following days to tell people in both on-gas grid and off-gas grid homes how they can apply for the fantastic fund.
The grant will fund the following:
- Loft insulation
- Cavity wall insulation
- External wall insulation
- Solar panels
