Confirmed and recovered cases of Covid-19 in Doncaster

There have now been 95 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 5 deaths within Doncaster and Bassetlaw trust hospitals, 7 patients have recovered.

They have been discharged from Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital, following successful treatment of their symptoms, and having returned negative test results.

A statement issued by the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals trust said:

“Since the outbreak of coronavirus, health professionals at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals have been hard at work making preparations to ensure the Trust is in the best position possible to care for the anticipated increase in Covid-19 patients who require care.

These preparations have included standing down non-urgent and elective activity, redeploying staff and providing necessary training to enable staff to work in areas which are going to be extremely busy and under pressure, and physically moving some wards to better accommodate the treatment of Covid-19 patients.”

Richard Parker, Chief Executive at the trust, added:

“We are very pleased to have been able to safely discharged seven patients who were treated for coronavirus and we wish them the very best in their continued recovery.

We are imploring the people of Doncaster and Worksop to adhere to the social distancing and isolation rules outlined by the Prime Minister to limit the spread of coronavirus and flatten the curve of infection, so that our hospitals can provide the appropriate care for all of the patients will be in need of our care.

However, It is important to note that if you need emergency care and treatment our services remain open and are safe to attend.

Finally, I want to thank my colleagues within the Trust. They are doing an outstanding job in these extraordinary times. Please do all you can to support them – stay at home, protect the NHS and help us beat Covid-19.”

The trust have recently relocated all maternity services from Bassetlaw Hospital to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. It is asking that all patients who do not require urgent medical care contact their GP’s and do not attend A&E.

Anybody with a suspected case of Covid-19 is being advised to remain at home and self-isolate.

Visiting has been suspended except for specific patient groups, such as birthing partners or in life-threatening cases.
