Windows smashed on Victoria Street in series of thefts
Humberside Police are investigating a series of overnight break-ins at shops on Victoria Street in Grimsby Town Centre.
Police are examining the scene in the Victoria Street area after several stores, including Marks and Spencer, Cooplands, The Body Shop and Warhammer had their windows smashed and items stolen.
Stores have been cordoned off, and many of the broken windows replaced with boards.
Several of the stores affected have been closed for almost three weeks because of the government’s lockdown and social distancing measures.
Freshney Place Shopping Centre closed last month until further notice, in an attempt to curb the spread.
Residents have expressed disappointment by these actions, with one local saying:
“As if business owners don’t have enough to deal with, given the massive financial losses they are currently experiencing. Its shocking that someone would do something like this.”
Several others have called for a curfew to be introduced as part of the UK’s lockdown measures.
More details as the investigation continues.
