Police report death following West Street crash

Humberside Police have stated that a man has died following a car crash on West Street in Scunthorpe yesterday.

Officers are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the collision or who might have seen the vehicle prior to the crash.

As we reported yesterday, it is thought that the 83-year-old male driver suffered a fatal medical episode, possibly a heart attack, at the wheel.

A cordon was put in place on West Street just before 1pm on Thursday after his vehicle collided with a house.

Paramedics attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody else was injured in the incident.

Yesterday, a spokesperson for Humberside Police said:

“We have been in attendance at the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision on West Street in Scunthorpe which happened at 12.50pm.

“Sadly the driver, an 83 year-old man, is believed to have suffered a fatal medical episode at the wheel and died at the scene.

“The family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

“No one else was injured in the incident.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or may have seen the vehicle, a grey Ford Fiesta, prior to the collision to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 270 of 25 June 2020.”
