Altercation on West Street

Humberside Police have launched an investigation and a public appeal following an altercation on West Street in Scunthorpe.

Officers are looking for independent witnesses to come forward after a man and woman were injured.

The incident is thought to have happened at around 10.20pm on Saturday 4 July.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred at the junction of West Street and Wells Street.

As the victims walked along West Street they were approached by a group of men.

The men are said to have assaulted the couple, and the man was left with serious facial injuries.

It’s also understood that the female victim had been involved in a verbal disagreement with another woman in earlier in the evening.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said:

“If you believe you have information which could assist our investigation, or you were driving in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage, please call our non-emergency 101 line, quoting incident number 16/70254/20.

“The 26-year-old has been released on conditional bail, pending further enquiries.”
