Plans for Scunthorpe Magistrates Court revealed

New plans for Scunthorpe Magistrates Court have been revealed, following a proposal from Scunthorpe based developer Great Life Homes Ltd.

The building on Corporation Road has been vacant for almost four years, since 2016.

In February, it was sold as a development opportunity.

Despite being marketed at a guide price of £75,000, the building sold for a total of £121,000.

Scunthorpe Magistrates Court served the justice system in North Lincolnshire for many years.

But if new plans go ahead, the building will be used for a very different purpose.

Great Life Homes Ltd have put forward a proposal to convert the building into one single one-bedroom flat and six two-bedroom flats.

Five parking spaces to the rear of the building, off Laneham Street, would be retained.

Part of their application reads:

“The premises generally are in good condition but has some issues with leaking flat roof areas, and rotten and defective fascias and soffits, giving a poor visual appearance.

“The premises were vacated in February this year and sold at auction as a development opportunity.”

Since the closure of the court at Scunthorpe, less serious crime and family cases have been transferred to courts in Grimsby and Hull.

Developers are currently awaiting approval from North Lincolnshire Council.
