Red Arrows grounded after Hawk jet crash

RAF Scampton to become Lincolnshire International Airport

According to reports, RAF Scampton is set to become the Lincolnshire International Airport.

The Red Arrows are also set to move permanently to RAF Waddington, from the MoD.

The RAF announced previously that the base would close in 2022 due to the costs.

This announcement made it uncertain for those who heard of its closure, however, thankfully the Red Arrows will relocate once Scampton closes.

Allegedly, it was initially said that the site would become an edifice for the Red Arrows, with a commemorative park for the RAF and Dambusters.

The Ministry of Defence is reportedly looking for an investment firm to take hold of the RAF base for airport conversion.

They reportedly issued a letter stating the land would not be offered back to the previous owners.

The closest airports in the vicinity are Humberside and Doncaster Sheffield.

From early proposals, it suggests it could be operational as an airport by 2023, which would allegedly offer worldwide travel.

An airport of such scale would surely boost the local economy and help the levelling up of the North.
